Republican National Convention Preview

It won’t be long…20 days away before an estimated 50,000 delegates, alternates, accredited news media and protesters will converge on Tampa, Florida for the Republican National Convention.  Preparations continue for the convention  August 27-30, 2012 at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.  Reminders that the Tampa Bay area, ( St. Petersburg, Clearwater and nearby communities) will be in the national spotlight soon, are starting to show up….signs like the C-Span billboard along Interstate 275 near the Floribraska exit in Tampa.

As work crews transform the Times Forum inside, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus announced some of the headliners, who will address the convention delegates.  They are Florida Governor Rick Scott, Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckebee, Ohio Governor John Kasich, New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez, the first female Hispanic governor in the United States; Arizona Senator John McCain, the party’s 2008 presidential nominee, Former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, the first African American woman to hold this position; Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin, U.S. Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky and  Former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum, a 2012 presidential primary candidate.

The RNC will announce the keynote speaker and others in the days to come.

“We’re proud and excited to announce these outstanding leaders will address the nation duing our convention in Tampa. They are some of the party’s brightest stars. Ours will be a world class convention worthy of the next president of the United States,” said Chairman Priebus in a news release this week.
