With Governor Rick Scott’s approval, the 2013 Florida Legislature passed and has designated this weekend as a tax-free period on certain items. The tax free holiday started Friday, Aug. 2 and runs through Sunday, Aug. 2 at midnight. For 3 days, no sales taxes will be collected on sales of clothing, shoes, uniforms, wallets, bags, backpacks and other back-to-school items. There are limits on 3 categories of purchases. No sales taxes on any school supply item $15 or less; clothing item $75 or less and personal computer and related accessories $750 or less. Florida reinstated the sales tax holiday in 2010.
