Remnants of Karen and a cold front brought showers and waves of rain to the Tampa Bay area Monday, meteorologists say. Over the weekend, Tropical Storm Karen weakened in the Gulf of Mexico due to dry air and wind shear. Since last week, local and state emergency officials in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida have been watching the storm as it entered the Gulf of Mexico and asked residents to prepare to evacuate, if necessary.
Due to the Federal Government shutdown, NOAA.gov and associated websites are unavailable, but the National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center in Miami are open to protect life and property. Stay tuned to your local news station for weather updates.
