Congressman Bill Young passed away a few hours ago.
“U.S. Representative C.W. Bill Young passed away this evening at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in the company of his family. The cause of death was complications related to a chronic injury. Information on services will be forthcoming.”

On Thursday, Young was reported to be gravely ill and in guarded condition after surgery for persistent back problems, according to a representative of the Young family. Last night, Young’s condition worsened at the hospital in Bethesda, Maryland.
The honorable, beloved 82-year-old Congressman from St. Petersburg, Florida had announced recently he would retire from Congress next year.Since 1970, Young served 22 terms in Congress and was the longest-serving Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives.
While in Washington, Congressman Young chaired and was a member of the House Appropriations Committee. He focused on military spending and brought hundreds of millions of federal defense dollars to the Tampa Bay area. Young and his wife, Beverly, also visited people in Washington area hospitals and touched many lives locally, too.
Young served in the Army National Guard before his career in politics. The Youngs have 3 children. They moved from Harmarville, Pennsylvania to Indian Shores, Florida in south Pinellas County.
