Memorial services for Congressman C.W. Bill Young will be held this week. Young, who was 82 years old, passed away last Friday night at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland from complications due to a chronic injury. He was hospitalized for persistent back problems and underwent surgery. A week earlier, Young had announced he was retiring from public life. Young served 22 terms in Congress and is the longest-serving Republican in the House of Representatives. Young was a champion supporter of military, defense spending and helping the little guy.
Young’s body in a flag-draped casket arrived at the St. Petersburg-Clearwater airport late Monday afternoon. A military honor guard carried the casket to a waiting hearse before law enforcement, firefighters and the U.S. Coast Guard. A caravan of family and friends escorted Young’s body to the funeral home.
