On May 2, 2014, the Tampa Bay area experienced heavy downpours Friday morning with 2 inches of rain per hour. In some places, flash flooding occurred in parts of south Tampa, near downtown Tampa, Bayshore Boulevard, Kennedy Boulevard, highway underpasses, east Hillsborough Avenue, the University of South Florida area, Fowler Avenue, Busch Boulevard near Busch Gardens and parts of Temple Terrace. In the Carrollwood area, there was some ponding at street corners due to county drainage improvements over last few years. 3.5 inches rain was recorded in our rain gauge Friday morning to Saturday night. After a dreary, soggy start to the weekend, the sunshine was very welcome on Sunday.
