Safe Sitter Training for Teens

Tampa Police are offering safe sitter training for teenagers. This week 18 teens became part of the “Safe Sitter” club. Officer Susan Bowers and the St. Joseph’s Children Advocacy Center host the training at the East Tampa Resources in Community Hope (RICH) House. The teenagers go through 8 hours of training and various scenarios to teach them how to handle emergency situations such as how to handle a choking infant or child. The teens also receive advice on how to run to their own safe and successful sitter services. Tampa Police say most of the teens who participate in the “Safe Sitter” training are from single-parent households and often are responsible for watching their younger siblings while parents are at work.
