Severe Weather and Heavy Rain in Tampa Bay Area

Severe storms, power outage 001??????????

The power was back on at Flippers Pizzeria this afternoon.

Strong storms with numerous lightning strikes, heavy downpours and gusty winds moved through the Tampa Bay area this morning. Before noon, over 3,000 lightning strikes were reported in Hillsborough County. As thunder boomed and lightning crackled, most of the power went out at 9:30 a.m. at Flippers Pizzeria, 13149B N. Dale Mabry in the Carrollwood area. Store manager Jarred Ervi thought it was weather-related. The pizzeria served 10 customers by candlelight and accepted cash payments only. Flippers staff baked the pizzas and calazones in a gas oven during the outage. TECO restored all power to the restaurant at 1 p.m. today. There also was ponding on roads. Rainfall at one location in the Carrollwood Village area was 0.9 inches between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. The National Weather Service forecast has an 80 percent rain chance for the rest of today.
