Top: (2:02) – Interview with Anna Vuong, Queena’s sister
Bottom: Combat sport athlete and MMA fighter Caroline Portugal and a coach show a simple defense move women can use when attacked. Portugal led the self-defense training at the fundraiser for Queena. Portugal also is the founder of Hot Ninja Defenders, an anti-rape/violence program against women, teens and LGBT people.
On Saturday afternoon, a group of women learned how to be aware of their surroundings, use their intuition and how to strike back if attacked in their home or anywhere. The 3-hour self-defense class at Title Boxing Club, 4212 Henderson Blvd. in South Tampa was for women only– 13 years and older, but it also benefited the survivor of a vicious beating and assault.
Queena was violently attacked, raped and left for dead by her assailant at the Bloomingdale Library in Hillsborough County in April 2008. She was a graduating high school senior at the time and had a full scholarship to the University of Florida. Queena is still on the long road of recovery….mending with the help of her family, friends, the generosity of the community and their faith in God.
If you wish to help the family with the expenses for physical, speech and ongoing therapies, donations can be made payable to the Bloomingdale Library Assault Victim Trust Fund or at any Bank of Tampa or Sun Trust Bank. You also can mail your check to Join Queena, P.O. Box 891277, Tampa, FL 33689
