Major Winter Storm to impact Mid-Atlantic

The Mid-Atlantic states and parts of the South are bracing for a big winter storm today. Southwest Airlines canceled all flights into Memphis International Airport. Southwest Airlines tweeted to rebook online due to high call volumes and the winter weather impacting their operations today.  Winter storm warnings are in effect for the Washington, DC area from 4 p.m. Monday to Noon Tuesday.  The George Washington Birthday Parade also is cancelled in Alexandria, Virginia. Schools in Durham, North Carolina are scheduled to close 3 hours early today.  States of Emergency also have been declared in northern Mississippi and 15 counties in northern Georgia.

According to weather.gov, heavy snowfall is forecast from southeastern Missouri to West Virginia  with more than a foot of snow in some places. Further south, ice is more of a threat from Arkansas to North Carolina.
