On Friday, March 20, 2015, a special investigations unit of detectives wrapped up an 11-month investigation that ended with the arrests of 2 men in Tampa and the discovery of cocaine street-valued at $300,000. With the help of SWAT, Tampa Police and District 4 Sheriff’s deputies, the undercover detectives conducted a drug buy and arrested Willie Johnson, 42 , of 3107 E. 29th Avenue in Tampa. With a search warrant, detectives and the SWAT team went to 8303 Ash Street in Tampa. Derrick Willis, 36, homeowner at that address was seen fleeing and was arrested.
During a search at 8303 Ash Avenue, detectives found a large amount of packaged cocaine for sale and $2,6665 in cash. They also seized a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 valued at $5,500.
Detectives also searched Willis’ storage unit at Metro self-storage, 10813 Boyette Road in Riverview, Florida. With a search warrant, detectives found a large amount of powdered cocaine estimated street value of $300,000.
Johnson is charged with cocaine trafficking, cocaine possession, possession of drug paraphenalia and driving with a suspended license.
