A $5 or less meal is a bargain these days, but if you can splurge a little more, you might want to visit these 2 small, cozy restaurants in Tampa. Simply Pho at 13149 Fletcher Avenue opened recently in the Carrollwood Village area. The new Vietnamese restaurant draws mostly Asian American customers, many impressed with the food here. Prices are slightly higher than the popular Saigon Deli on W. Waters Avenue near N. Dale Mabry. Our Pho Soup (Pick 3 meats) was $8.50 for regular size bowl. Extra Large bowls are $10.50. The Pho is good with a hint of MSG. Simply Pho also has appetizers, salads, noodle, rice dishes and a kid’s menu. Phone: 813-960-5618
If you’re visiting Ybor City, James Joyce Irish Pub at 1724 East Eighth Avenue has lunches for $8.99. Big servings for the price, too. The Fish and Chips were awesome and came with a salad, coleslaw, crispy fries and a crispy large piece of fried Cod fish. The menu includes burgers, bangers and mash, appetizers, salads and other dishes. The pub’s wood atmosphere celebrates the owner’s Irish roots with tall wood tables and stools, video games, flat screen televisions and large bar. The pub also is open for dinner. Phone: 813-247-1896
