On Father’s Day, the worship service message from Senior Pastor William Rice and Ron Cooney, Pastor of Group Life was titled “Who’s Number One?” During June, the Calvary Baptist Church sermon series is “A Match Made in Heaven? Discovering God’s Plan and Purpose for Marriage.” Next Sunday’s message will be “The Assault on Biblical Marriage and Why It Matters?”
Here are the Message Notes:
“Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.” – Ephesians 5:21
The number one killer of healthy relationships is Selfishness, a desire to be Number One.
“The Bible is our guide for life,” Pastor Cooney said.
Pastor Cooney compared a balanced, stable marriage in Christ to the 4 legs of a chair, a SEAT. Cooney also encouraged couples to use God’s Word to filter their beliefs, feelings, actions and thoughts.
Spiritual (What I believe)
“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” –Pslam 119:105 NLT
Emotional (How I feel)
“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” –Jeremiah 17:9 NIV
Action (What I do)
“Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other, let us show the truth by our actions.” — 1 John 3:18 NLT
Thoughts (How I think)
“We demolish arguments and every pretention that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” –2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV
“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” –Mark 12:29-30 NIV
Both pastors encourage husbands and wives to learn to put your spouse before yourself.
“Your goal is to submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.” Pastor Rice said in concluding today’s message.
“You can’t be number one. It’s about serving another person, putting someone else first, not because they deserve it. Do it out of reverence for Christ,” Pastor Rice said.
