The City of Tampa is buying back guns on Saturday, June 27th to help stop gun violence and save lives. It’s Anonymous, No Questions Asked. Tampa police and the city will pay $50 cash per gun for assault rifles, handguns and any firearm at River Tower Park, 401 East Bird Street from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Residents who can’t take their guns to River Tower Park can contact Tampa Police to pick up their guns for them. To schedule a gun pickup, call 813-276-3785 or visit http://www.tampagov.net/Police
The gun buy-back program is part of Mayor Bob Buckhorn and Police Chief Eric Ward’s efforts to make this summer safer and to lower the number of crimes involving guns. There has been a steep rise in gun violence over the past year. Police investigated 443 gun-related crimes from January 1 through June 1st this year.
Last year, there were 320 gun-related crimes within the same 6 months.
With a generous donation from the Tampa Bay Lightning Foundation, the city is hosting this Saturday’s gun buy-back. The mayor and police chief urge parents whose children may have a gun and adult gun owners who no longer need their guns to take advantage of the gun-buy back. Police say that will lower the risk of guns stolen during a burglary.
