This Sunday’s message by Senior Pastor William Rice was “The Assault on Biblical Marriage and Why It Matters” based on Romans 1:18-32 and Psalm 11:3.  It is part of the sermon series, “A Match Made in Heaven? Discover God’s Plan and Purpose for Marriage” during June.

Here are the Message Notes for Romans 1:18-32 and Psalm 11:3

“And because they did not think it worthwhile to acknowledge God, God delivered them over to a worthless mind to do what is morally wrong…they not only do them, but even applaud others who practice them.” –Romans 1:28, 32

“When the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” –Psalm 11:3

Why Bible believing Christians overwhelmingly oppose gay marriage:

1. We have a defining conviction.

“But Peter and the apostles replied, “We must obey God rather than men.” –Acts 5:29

2. We have a desperate concern.

–We care about people.

–We care about country.

–We care about religious liberty.

3. We have a divine commission.

“Don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be deceived: No sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, or anyone practicing homosexuality, no thieves, greedy people, drunkards, verbally abusive people, or swindlers, will inherit God’s kingdom. And some of you used to be like this. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”

–1 Corinthians 6:9-11 HCSB

During today’s message, Pastor Rice also responded to the U.S. Supreme Court’s historic ruling making same sex marriages legal in all 50 states on June 26, 2015.

“Ours is not a ministry of condemnation, but of salvation.” said Pastor Rice.

“We are living in a time of changing courses.” Pastor Rice said. “The Bible is clear on the design of marriage and the purpose of marriage.”

God’s design for marriage is between a man and a woman, according to the Bible.

Pastor Rice also stated the church’s position in not encouraging  or misleading anyone, all sinners in making lifestyle choices that will harm them or end civilization.

“We cannot accommodate a changing culture. Our authority is rooted in the unchanging, inspired Word of God, not polls, not laws. Our convictions do not come from others.” Pastor Rice said.

“Under no circumstances will I perform a same sex marriage. I will respectfully decline.” Pastor Rice said.

“We will have to learn to be a marginalized minority….Our position may seem hateful and harmful, but it should never be.” Pastor Rice said. He added that Christians have historically been on the wrong side versus today’s changing culture and attitude toward same-sex marriage.

“Love them in the name of Christ, but we must also speak the truth,” Pastor Rice said.

“The commission of Christ has not changed. Our commission is to love our neighbors, Gays and Lesbians, too. Put the sword down. The power is in the cross and to change hearts.” Pastor Rice said.
