If fireworks are part of your celebration tonight, Tampa Police encourage everyone to be careful in using them tonight. Family celebrations with fireworks in public places such as Bayshore Boulevard or along the Courtney Campbell Causeway, require a permit, according to Tampa Police. If you buy fireworks at roadside stands or indoor fireworks businesses, all customers must present a current, valid photo ID and sign a document stating you are not using the purchased fireworks for harmful purposes. Law enforcement across the country will be present and remain on high alert this July 4th weekend. Law enforcement urge the public to be vigilant and report anything that seems out of the ordinary to them, too.
Tampa Police also report an adult seriously injured both hands while holding a mortar tube and lighting the firework inside the tube. It happened on July 1st, 2015 at 312 E. Ohio Avenue.
The Hillsborough Sheriff’s Office also reminds everyone to curb celebratory gunfire this Independence Day. Firing a gun up in the air has led to tragedy and deaths in the past. There’s also no way to know where bullets will land, possibly seriously hurting or killing an innocent bystander miles away.
