Top left, clockwise –Customers start lining up at 11:00 a.m. The Hawaiian Mixed Grill plate with ginger citrus slaw and macaroni salad. Families and customers dine under the shade at the Brandon location at Brandon Boulevard, Hwy 60 and Paul Street today.  Hawaiian Asian style Philly Steak sandwich with fries. “Alohas and Mahalos” here.  (Aloha means hello, love and affection. Mahalo means thanks in Hawaiian.)

The South Pacific Grill food truck is a hidden gem in Brandon. Since the summer of 2013, the bright red food truck has delivered a taste of Hawaii and Asia and built up a loyal group of fans.  Every Saturday, you can find it at the corner of Hwy 60, Brandon Boulevard and Paul Street. Look for a lot with shade trees and cars parked on the grass. SPG lives up to the many positive reviews from its loyal customers.

Owner Huong Nguyen’s menu includes Teriyaki burgers and a mixed Hawaiian plate that includes 2 sides.  The mixed Hawaiian plate, $13, was a generous serving enough to feed 2 people.  Our order came with pulled Hawaiian pork, grilled chicken and Korean barbeque short ribs, all served with a corn pineapple relish. The entrée also comes with 2 sides. Customers highly recommend the ginger citrus coleslaw and Hawaiian-style macaroni salad.

Labor Day Weekend 2015 015The banana spring rolls (3 per order at $5) also are delicious for dessert. The crispy fried spring rolls have marinated bananas inside.  A coconut milk sauce comes with the banana spring rolls drizzled with honey.

“We’ve tried a lot of things on the menu and it’s all good,” said Charlee Crawford, food blogger and a loyal customer of South Pacific Grill during our Labor Day weekend visit today.

The popular Hawaiian/Asian food truck is open until the food runs out. The food truck restaurant roams to other  locations during the week.  Find out where it’s going next, but the South Pacific Grill is usually at 1231 W. Brandon Boulevard at Paul Street every Saturday.

There also are 2 tables with chairs under shade trees for customers to dine at this Brandon location. Many customers do takeout.

The affordable entrée prices range from $7.50 – $13.00 for the Hawaiian Mixed Plate with 2 sides.  Credit cards are accepted.
