On Sunday, Senior Pastor William Rice’s message this week was titled “The Hidden Blessing” based on 1 Peter 3:14, but read it all the way to Verse 18, too.  It is part of sermon series called “Exiles – Hope for the Hard Road Home” for the next 4 weeks.

Here are Pastor Rice’s message notes for September 27, 2015:

The Hidden Blessing – 1 Peter 3:14 (and read 15-18, too)

“But even if you should suffer for righteousness, you are blessed.” — 1 Peter 3:14 HCSB

1. What Do I need to SEE?

Do not feat what they fear or be disturbed, but honor the Messaiah as Lord in your hearts. — 1 Peter 3:14-15 HCSB

Courage comes when I…..

—-Fear God Alone.

—- Trust God Completely.

“Don’t fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; rather, fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”  –Matthew 10: 28 HCSB

2. What Do I Need to SAY?

“Always be ready to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you. However, do this with gentleness and respect, keeping your conscience clear….”

–1 Peter 3: 15-16 HCSB

–I don’t have a Testimony Without A Test.

–It’s not just What I Say, but How I Say It That Matters to God.

There is a hidden blessing of God during suffering, personal trials, criticism by others, Senior Pastor William Rice explained.

“If you define the blessings of God by what you can see, feel, touch today, which is temporary, you will be discouraged with God eventually,” Pastor Rice said.

“Do not be afraid, if God seems distant….Do not fear what people fear. Fear God alone,” Pastor Rice said.

“Do not be afraid. You are more valuable to God than many sparrows,” Pastor Rice said, referring to Matthew 10:31.

“Even if today when you can’t see the outcome, I will trust in God,” Pastor Rice reminded us.

It’s also important to defend your faith, why you believe and have hope in Christ, with meekness and fear, with a good conscience, when others defame you as evildoers, according to 1 Peter 3:15-17.

“…..those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed. For it is better, it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil,” according to 1 Peter 3:16-17.

“Do it with gentleness and respect with people who attack or criticize you. Don’t be arrogant. Don’t chew people out.” Pastor Rice said.

The greatest testimony you may have is when the walls are crumbling around you and you trusted God completely, Pastor Rice said.

“The mission of our church is to win people to God so they will receive His forgiveness. Christ died for them and their sin,” Pastor Rice said during this sermon series.

“Living God, help us to trust in you completely, so that you can use our trials to see you,” Pastor Rice said in prayer for everyone.
