Fatal Hit and Run Crash on Sheldon Road Driver Turns Herself In

The female driver involved in a fatal hit and run crash on Sheldon Road has turned herself in to Hillsborough County Sheriff Office detectives. HCSO identified the driver as 38-year-old Jennifer Race of Patterson Road in Tampa. Around 3:50 p.m. Friday, October 2, Lawrence Lockhart, Jr. was crossing Sheldon Road at Woodlake Boulevard in a Mercury Mystic when he was T-Boned by a Cadillac SRX, which was stolen. The crash critically injured 83-year-old  Lockhart. Lockhart was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he died from his injuries. Lockhart of Weeping Cherry Court in Tampa, was a NASA engineer who worked on Apollo 7.

HCSO reports Jennifer Race, the driver of the stolen Cadillac, walked to the Radiant Convenience store where she got a ride from the crash  scene.  Race made arrangements with an attorney to turn herself in at the Orient Road Jail on Sunday, October 4th.

Race faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving death and driving with a suspended license as a habitual traffic offender.
