Senior Pastor William Rice continues the sermon series, “Exiles, Hope for the Hard Road Home.” Sunday morning’s message was titled, How to Be in Style When You Are Out of Style” based on 1 Peter 5:5-7.
Below are Pastor Rice’s Message Notes with this sermon:
“And all of you clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your care on Him, because He cares about you.” –1 Peter 5: 5-7 HCSB
One character trait that never goes out of style with God is HUMILITY.
The path to personal humility….
- I must humble myself before OTHERS.
“Humility is not thinking of yourself as lesser than others, but seeing yourself clearly as you are,” Pastor Rice said in defining what humility is.
“Based on the gift each one has received, use it to serve others, as good managers of the varied grace of God.” — 1 Peter 4:10
—I must SERVE others.
—I must SUBMIT to others.
Pastor Rice clarified that we are not to follow, submit to a crazy leader.
“The most powerful person in the room leads by example,” Pastor Rice said.
Moses was the most accomplished leader in the Bible, Pastor Rice added. Moses led the exodus of Israelite slaves out of Egypt, into the wilderness for 40 years before they came together to form a nation. God also gave Moses the Ten Commandments, laws for civilization today, Pastor Rice explained.
The Bible says Moses was a very humble man who understood leading and serving others for the glory of God,” Pastor Rice said.
2. I must humble myself before GOD.
I must trust….
—-God’s PLAN so He may exalt me when He’s ready.
“Clothe yourself in humility. He gives grace to the humble,” Pastor Rice said.
Pastor Rice said we must humble ourselves before God and admit we are sinners in His sight to receive God’s forgiveness and grace.
“Help us to serve others to glorify God,” Pastor Rice said in closing prayer.
