National Weather Service has issued rip current and high surf advisories through 10 p.m. today for Tampa Bay area.
This video and photos were taken around 9:00-9:15 a.m. ET Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016 along the Courtney Campbell Causeway from Tampa to Clearwater. Strong winds, higher waves and surf pushed water onto the side roads along the Causeway and flooded the boat ramp parking lot there. The reports of damage (roofs peeled off, power lines down, trees down) also are coming in from Charlotte, Lee and Collier counties to the National Weather Service this weekend. An awning blown off in Frost Proof in Polk county also was reported to NWS.
The sunshine returned this morning after overnight tornadoes missed Hillsborough and Pinellas counties. Unfortunately, while many people were asleep, a deadly EF 2 tornado touched down further south around 3:00-3:30 a.m. and killed 2 people and injured others in a mobile home in Duette, a rural area in Manatee County. A tornado also caused major damage to several condo units in the 6200 block of Midnight Pass Road on Siesta Key in Sarasota County.
