The United States Election Assistance Commission has information on voter registration and national voter registration forms in 5 Asian languages and Spanish. You must be a United States citizen and 18 years old or older to vote in the 2016 primaries, caucuses and November Election for President. Ballots in Florida are in English and Spanish, but you can bring someone with you to assist you with voting such as a translator. For this year’s primaries and elections, Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections in Tampa also are looking for more Poll Workers. These are paid positions. If you want to vote in the Florida’s Presidential Preference Primary on March 15, 2016 or need to make changes in your voter registration, the deadline is February 16, 2016. According to the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections, registered Republican voters can vote for Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Chris Christie, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Jim Gilmore, Lindsey Graham, Mike Huckabee, John R. Kasich, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Rick Santorum and Donald J. Trump. Registered Democrat voters can vote for Hillary Clinton, Martin O’Malley and Bernie Sanders.
Another resource for Asian Pacific Islander American voters is http://www.apiavote.org. This group is non-partisan. Asian Pacific Islander American voters generally lean toward Democratic Party candidates and values, according to APIA and Pew Research, but that’s not always the case. Older, successful, educated Asian Americans say they lean toward Republican, conservative values because they want fairness and don’t want to be penalized for working hard for their success with higher taxes. Frustrated with both parties, more Asian Americans also registered as Independent voters before the last Presidential election, according to APIA.
