Hundreds came out to Largo Central Park today to celebrate Chinese New Year, also called the Spring Festival for many Chinese. The holiday also is a time for families to get together and celebrate the Year of the Monkey. This year’s family-friendly Chinese New Year festival in Largo was organized by the Suncoast Association of Chinese Americans Tampa Bay. The event featured traditional Chinese, Asian food, cultural performances by local and Orlando groups, fun activities for the children and arts and crafts for sale. Admission to the annual CNY festival was free. The Asian Pacific American Medical Students Association from the University of South Florida in Tampa also provided free health screenings to festival visitors. Families and children also took photos with the festival’s dragons and a panda in costume. Each year the all-volunteer festival draws more families, people and vendors to celebrate the Chinese New Year and enjoy the fun activities and food at this park in Largo, Florida. The weather also was perfect–sunny, comfortably cool for the large numbers of people who came from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
