Clearwater Beach Today

Clearwater Today 001

Spring Break tourists and locals enjoyed the gentle breezes, comfortable, lower humidity weather today at Clearwater Beach, Florida.  There’s a lot of  new resort hotel construction going on Coronado Street and along the main street along Clearwater Beach and Pier 60, including some  toward the Sand Key bridge.  Even on a Thursday, parking is hard to find in public beach metered parking lots. So bring your patience and sunscreen with you on a day like today.  Lunch at the original Frenchy’s restaurant at 41 Baymont Street. The original restaurant is small, cozy, not on the beach, but also is a favorite local and tourist spot.  Frenchy’s is known for its fried grouper sandwiches ($11.95) and daily specials under $10.

The Sugar Sand Festival also is going on at Clearwater Beach now through this Sunday, April 24th.

You  can avoid the congested traffic and not finding parking at Clearwater Beach by taking the Clearwater  Ferry.  Head downtown to Osceola Avenue and Cleveland Street.  The parking is free there at the Harborview Center.  The ferry ride costs $4  round trip and runs daily from 6 a.m. to midnight Mondays – Fridays and 8 a.m. – midnight on Saturdays and Sundays.  Ferry ride operators say it’s a scenic 15 minute ride each way to Clearwater Beach and back.  For more information, go to http://www.clearwaterferry.com or call 727-755-0297

From Tampa, take Hwy 60/Gulf to Bay Boulevard. Turn right on Cleveland Street. Go on Cleveland Street all the way into downtown Clearwater.  On a day like today, Cleveland Street into downtown Clearwater and out was “the road less traveled.” At the end, you’ll find the free parking at Harborview Center and the Clearwater Ferry.
