Quiet Time with Jesus

Wish everyone a safe Memorial Day in remembering the fallen heroes while serving our country. We also invite you to worship today at Calvary Baptist Church, 110 N. McMullen Booth Road, Clearwater, Florida.  Services at 9:15 a.m. and 11 a.m., which also are streamed live at www.Calvary.us.  For more on today’s sermon, message notes and church information, visit http://www.calvary.us

Below is CBC’s Senior Pastor Willy Rice’s sermon notes accompanying today’s message, “Show Me Something” based on James 2:21-26. Pastor Rice explains that James is talking about fake relationships with God and that James warns us about dead, phony faith that it will not save you.  Pastor Rice looks at 2 people in the Old Testament– Abraham, a respected Jew and Rahab, a prostitute.  Both trusted God so much that when they obeyed Him, they received a better future from God.

Show Me Something – James 2:21-26

“For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.”

James 2:26 HCSB

My faith is revealed by my ACTIONS.

Real faith is demonstrated when I…..

1.  OBEY God today.

“By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed… –Hebrews 11:8 HCSB

“By faith Rahab the prostitute received the spies in peace and didn’t perish with those who disobeyed.” —Hebrews 11:31 HCSB

2. TRUST God with tomorrow.

“By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed and went out to a place he was going to receive as an inheritance. He went out, not knowing where he was going.”

— Hebrews 11:8  HCSB
