Pinellas County Sheriff Office Deputies are alerting the public to not fall for a recent phone scam happening in Pinellas County. The PCSO became aware of the phone scam last Friday, June 17th.
The suspect is calling residents in Pinellas County posing as Sheriff’s Office Captain Mark Dunnagan.
The deputies say the suspect calls victims and tells them he is a captain with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and they didn’t appear in court. The suspect tells victims that if they do not pay a fine, he will send a deputy to their home to arrest them.
The PCSO says the suspect is male and the phone calls come from the 727 area code.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office stresses it never calls citizens asking for money by phone. Deputies also advise citizens to not give out personal information or account information over the phone unless you are making the phone call.
The investigation is ongoing.
