Houston Police Officers Shot

Two Houston Police officers are recovering at separate hospitals after both were shot while searching for 2 burglary suspects in the Glenshire neighborhood in southwest Houston Tuesday afternoon. Houston Police tweeted 2 officers were shot during an incident at 8714 Sterlingame. Police shot and killed one suspect, but the manhunt for the other suspect continues. The neighborhood, Valley West Elm, Cross Elementary and Welch Middle schools were on lockdown on Tuesday as officers searched for the suspects and investigated the incident.

Mayor Sylvester Turner and Police Chief Art Avecedo updated reporters at the scene and the public on social media.

“Please keep in your prayers @houstonpolice Ronnie Cortez, Jose Munoz and all our first responders who work to protect our city every day,” Mayor Turner tweeted.

Chief Avecedo said 3 homes were burglarized in the area and urged the public that if they see or hear something suspicious or out of place to call 911.

“It’s been a trying day, but please continue to pray for these officers,” Chief Avecedo said  Tuesday afternoon on Periscope.
