Happy Spring! Spring break continues for visiting students and their families in the Houston area. It’s also the last week of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, which ends this Sunday, March 26th.
According to Rodeo Houston on Twitter, the paid rodeo and concert attendance for Go Tejano Day brought out a record breaking 75,557 fans on Sunday to NRG park and NRG Stadium. The family-friendly day also included performances by Banda El Recodo and Siggno from Mexico. On the last day of Spring Break for Houston public school students, many also came out Sunday to enjoy the carnival rides, rodeo food, funnel cakes, see the livestock shows, shop and see the exhibits.

Update on March 15, 2017 incident: Reports of shots fired last Wednesday night caused a stampede of visitors to run for their lives. The next day Houston Police Department Captain Dwayne Reedy announced one 9 mm shell casing was found in the northwest corner of the carnival area near Kirby Drive and Westridge. However, no weapon was found and there were no eyewitnesses who saw shots fired from a weapon. A person was arrested for evading arrest, but no suspect has been identified, according to a Rodeo Houston statement on March 16, 2017.
All visitors to the livestock show and rodeo go through security screening, including open bags/purses checked and metal items, keys, phones removed from clothing before going through the detectors.
