SW Houston Tornado

A National Weather Service Survey Team confirmed an EF-1 tornado damaged the Azaela Place Apartments at 5900 Bissonnet near Renwick in southwest Houston late this morning. The tornado and severe weather moved through quickly and damaged windows, brought down large tree limbs and carports on top of some vehicles at Azaela Place.  Ulises, a University of Houston student in an off-camera interview, described what he saw when he returned from the University of Houston.

Tornado warnings were issued for Houston, Pasadena and Bellaire, Texas to take cover and seek shelter around 10 a.m.  Azaela Place is located just outside Bellaire city limits.

Houston Bush International Airport tweeted 14 flights were diverted to other airports due to the severe weather.  Houston Hobby also stopped all departing flights on the ground and advises travelers to check with their airlines for updates.

The National Weather Service continues to issue flash flood and tornado warnings as the severe weather system pushes eastward.
