Police Fatal Shooting in Bellaire

Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of an armed robbery suspect.  It happened at 5400 Bellaire Boulevard around 6:55 a.m. today. The male suspect who died has not been identified, pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD patrol officers were responding to a robbery-in-progress at the McDonald’s at 5512 Bellaire Boulevard. Police found the male robbery suspect walking on Bellaire Boulevard toward Chimney Rock.  When officers confronted the suspect, they ordered him to drop his weapons and lie on the ground. The suspect armed with a screw driver and scissors ignored the officers’ commands. An HPD officer and Bellaire Police officer used their tasers, which had no effect on the suspect. According to HPD, the suspect charged toward HPD senior officer T. Connor with his screw driver and scissors. That’s when the HPD officer, fearing for his safety, shot the suspect with his duty weapon. The suspect was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. No officers were hurt during the incident.

The HPD Homicide Division Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office are investigating this case.
