Thanksgiving Day is quickly approaching. This basic Thanksgiving family meal cost $16 with coupons and shopping for bargains at HEB, Target and Randalls grocery stores in Houston. Target frozen turkeys are 59 cents a pound.
The HEB turkey was 47 cents a pound (limit one per customer) if you buy $20 worth of other groceries. Our household bought yams, fried onions and cranberry sauce, cake mix and instant mashed potatoes at HEB.
At Randalls, shop for the buy-one-get-one free canned turkey gravy and the Del Monte canned vegetables for 59 cents a can with a Del Monte coupon. Shop the specials at Kroger where if you buy a spiral ham at $2.99 a pound, you get a free turkey, too. Krogers also has large turkeys, 14 pounds and up for 59 cents a pound with a limit of 2 turkeys per customer.
There are families in need or recovering from hurricanes, a loss this year. Spread the Thanksgiving blessings and kindness to others with a donation of money, a frozen turkey and non-perishable food to any local non-profit, church, food bank or business before November 22nd –all trying to make this Thanksgiving a brighter one for everyone.
