Most of Texas is under a winter storm warning, freeze warning or winter advisory tonight. Houston area officials say local schools, offices and services will be closed Tuesday, January 16th. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner tweeted “Municipal courts will be closed as wintry weather with snow, sleet and ice heads toward the Houston area Tuesday.”
“All HISD schools will be closed tomorrow due to developing inclement weather and the potential for hazardous road conditions,” Houston Independent School District tweeted Monday evening. Spring Branch, Humble, Galena Park and Cypress-Fairbanks school districts also announced their schools and offices will be closed Tuesday.
The Texas Department of Transportation is pre-treating highways and bridges for the oncoming blast of artic weather and warns drivers to stay off the roads, if they can.
“As Texas braces for Winter Storm Inga, TxDOT continues to pre-treat roads in anticipation of freezing rain and ice. Ice can form even with this pre-treatment. It’s imperative for drivers to slow down and use extra caution if they absolutely need to drive.” TxDOT tweeted tonight.
The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi tweeted a wind advisory is in effect for coastal counties and Victoria Crossroads from 6 a.m. Tuesday until 4 p.m. Tuesday.
