The Harris County Appraisal District is notifying Houston property owners their property value notices will be arriving later then usual. The normal delivery time is April.
The delay is because county appraisers are visiting Hurricane Harvey damaged neighborhoods with more damaged homes than usual and taking extra care in reviewing them to come up with an accurate 2018 market value.
If property owners disagree with the market value estimate, they can protest it. The May 15th deadline is for most property owners to file a protest. After receiving their property value notice, property owners will have 30 days to file their protest, according to the notice letter from Roland Altinger, Chief Appraiser of the Harris County Appraisal District.
