Texas Sales Tax Holiday on Hurricane Supplies

It’s no sales taxes weekend on emergency and hurricane preparation supplies in Texas.  The sales tax holiday starts at 12:01 a.m. Saturday April 28 and ends midnight, Monday, April 30th.

Here’s a list of some tax-exempt supplies:

Portable generators under $3,000

Hurricane shutters, emergency ladders under $300.

Tax-exempt supplies less than $75:

Batteries, non-electric can openers, carbon monoxide detectors, coolers, ice chests, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, gas containers, candles, battery-operated lanterns, flashlights, tarps, plastic sheeting, portable radios using batteries, tw0-way and weather radios, ground anchor systems, tie-down kits, hatchets and smoke detectors.

Consumers will have to pay sales taxes for these items:

Batteries for vehicles and boats, camping stoves, camping supplies, chain saws, plywood, extension ladders, step ladders, tents, repair and replacement parts.

Delivery and service charges related to the emergency/hurricane preparation item and included in the total price of the item.
