Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

After Hurricane Harvey hit Houston last year, Cookie Joe’s large dance school was a refuge from the storm.

“I was able to use my school as a shelter. That was exciting.” Joe said.

While she was not personally impacted by Harvey, Joe took in a family of 7 and their pets, 4 cats and a bunny at her dance school.  Joe is hopeful and proud for her hometown of Houston during its recovery.

“What’s important to me is what we can give. We  (Asian-Americans) are a smaller group, but we make a big impact,” Joe said.

While attending the American Chinese veterans lunch in Houston today, Joe shared her thoughts on her Chinese and Irish American heritage, her faith and how it has shaped her life today.
