FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers and/or Small Business Recovery Centers are open in areas hard-hit by hurricanes and other disasters. Visit https://www.fema.gov/disaster-recovery-centers for locations in your area.

Hurricane Seasons starts June 1. Now is the time to  apply for FEMA flood insurance, if you do not have it.  Apply at http://www.fema.gov   

During the last 2 weeks in May through Memorial Day weekend, Houston Police officers and law enforcement will be looking for motorists who don’t wear their seatbelts.

May 22 — Primary Runoff Election. Visit http://www.harrisvotes.org for Early Voting schedule and locations.

May 24 – Last day of school for Katy Independent School District students

May 28 — Memorial Day.  Houston Police Department, local law enforcement, TxDOT and medical staff remind motorists traveling this Memorial Day weekend to “Click It or Ticket.  Wear seatbelts.

June 1 – Atlantic and Central Pacific Hurricane Season begins.  Last day of school for Houston Independent School District students.

June 1 – Free Public Safety event at Houston’s Chinese Community Center, 10 a.m. – Noon, 9800 Town Park Drive.  Presented by State Representative Gene Wu and Houston Police Department Robbery Division.  Learn about “jugging” and how to protect yourself against crime. Bilingual officers and translators will be there.

September 15th – Hispanic Heritage Month begins.

Mondays through Saturdays – Harris County Community Centers in the Houston area offer free classes with volunteer teachers.  Learn Spanish, English, French, Mandarin Chinese, yoga, exercise, self defense, knitting, CPR and other things that interest you.
