Missouri City Workplace Shooting

The Missouri City Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened early this morning at the Ben E. Keith Foods Distribution Center at 725 Cravens Road.   The workplace shooting occurred around 2:11 a.m.  Two people were killed and one person was injured.

“This is the first active shooter situation Missouri City has encountered and we want to assure the public that the shooting did not affect any area outside of the Ben E. Keith facility,” Chief Mike Berezin said. “The scene is completely contained.”

Police identified the shooting suspect as employee Kristine Peralez, who shot two other employees at the facility. Peralez also was shot and taken into custody. Police say she was taken to Memorial Hermann to be treated for a gunshot wound and later died.

Manager Francisco Reyes and Fredencio Janas were shot. Police say Reyes died on the scene.  Janas survived and is at Southwest Memorial Hospital for a gunshot wound to his leg.

Police say around 20-25 employees were working at Ben E. Keith Foods Distribution Center when Peralez opened fire. A SWAT team extensively searched the building. No other suspects or victims were found, according to Missouri City Police.

The early morning workplace shooting happened at Ben E. Keith’s Gulf Coast division in Missouri City’s Beltway Crossing Business Park.  The national distributing company has been there since 2013.  The company employs around 431 people.
