Have a better week!
Daily Bible Verse:
“You are the world’s light–a city on a hill, glowing in the night for all to see. Don’t hide your light! Let it shine for all; let your good deeds glow for all to see, so that they will praise your heavenly Father.”
Matthew 5:14-16 TLB (The Living Bible)
It’s day 26 of the partial American government shutdown. IRS has recalled 46,000 furloughed workers to process refunds, but no audits. The IRS workers will not be paid, national news media report.
Furloughed federal workers are turning to non-profits and charitable acts of kindness for food and help to provide for their families.
The shutdown has closed the security checkpoint at Terminal B at Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas since Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Travelers also are feeling the impact with longer waits at TSA security checkpoints. Due to a shortage of TSA workers calling in sick or taking time to look for a second job, the federal government shutdown has affected airports across the country, including Houston, Miami and Atlanta Hartsfield. Airline travelers are advised to arrive 2-3 hours early before their flights and go through TSA security at another terminal. Check with your airport. The shutdown also has furloughed air traffic controllers.
Federally-funded museums, national parks, immigration courts, except for emergency deportation. and other federal agencies remain closed. The partial government shutdown affects more than 800,000 federal workers, including U.S. Coast Guard, TSA, IT workers, criminal investigators, mechanics, cooks, NASA employees and others who were layed off or working without pay. Furloughed NASA employees in Houston area rallied at Johnson Space Center to end the shutdown on Tuesday while some remained on the job without pay for the International Space Station.
Despite the federal government shutdown, Space Center Houston and its 400 exhibits will remain open.
USA Today reports Congress and the President still being paid during partial government shutdown. However, a few of the new people elected to Congress have requested to withhold their federal paychecks.
USA Today reports the President has donated his federal paycheck to different federal programs.
